A strong theme for this season’s NYFW was grunge, plaid, and patches that any cast member of the MTV show, Daria, would feel comfortable in (aside from the fashion club – and that’s a good thing). Mixed in the scene were prominent examples of punk & goth. Highlighted, are selected looks from Marissa Webb, Rodebjer, A Détacher, threeASFOUR, Anna K, Babyghost, Eckhaus Latta, Ground Zero, and Fengchen Wang.
Marissa Webb
Marissa “…excelled with some terrific outerwear, including long, easy coats in windowpane plaids and luxurious swing styles…” – WWD
Rodebjer
“The mix was eclectic, but in a considered way. And as the ladies wearing the looks at the party attested, by dint of their presence, the clothes work for the kind of women meant to wear them.” – Vogue
A Détacher
“The certain weight that turns up in Kowalska’s looks season after season can feel alternately heavy and substantial, but here it skewed happily toward the latter…” – Vogue
threeASFOUR
“…the collection featured the label’s familiar biomorphic looks, including bodysuits of cut-out vegan leather, a dress resembling a honeycomb-patterned ice-cream cone, another one made of faux feathers, and yet another shaped like a cocoon blanket.” – Art Info
Anna K
“Patches and brooches in the shape of planets, satellites, comets and stars embellished an array of pieces…” – WWD
Babyghost
“…this was a deliciously Goth-y lineup, light in feel if not in reference.” – Vogue
Eckhaus Latta
“Models of all genders wore lip gloss, their hair undone in what Latta called “this ‘Woman Under the Influence’ vibe – someone with a lot of vindictiveness who can leave their house looking nuts and owning it.” – W Magazine
Ground Zero
“Tartan flannels, deconstructed cuts and stonewashed denim embody a masculine grungy spirit on par to alt darlings Courtney Love and Shirley Manson, while sporty silhouettes, bold pops of color and Asian-inspired patchwork and embroideries maintain a punky femininity reminiscent of ’90s TV teen queens…” – High Snobiety
Fengchen Wang
