An inaugural electronic music festival, SXMusic, is touching down on the island of St. Martin in March 2016. Forget winter and party in the warm Caribbean sun while hearing sets from talent like M.A.N.D.Y., Maceo Plex, Adriatique, and Thugfucker. All acts are encouraged to stay for the week long party and blend with attendees. There’s also potential for longer form performances, as the festival aims to foster an atmosphere where artists can explore the outer edges of their music.
“…what sets the festival apart from its competitors is that SXMusic falls at a peak time of the year “when people actually want to go to the Caribbean”—instead of at the tail end of the summer season…SXMusic founder Julian Prince adds that Saint Martin is “the most beautiful and culturally diverse island in the Caribbean due to the fact that its half French and half Dutch”—a peculiarity stemming back to the 17th Century.” – Vice
Both day and night parties take place in three varied locations. In the forest, festival goers experience infinity pools, raised lounge huts, palm trees, roaming wildlife, and lush waterfalls. Located at the end of SXM airport’s runway, the beach offers views of hourly flights and Caribbean sunsets. Situated in a cove, the bay provides lush green hills and huts for shelter. The SXMusic Festival is truly an electronic music lovers escape.
“Clubbers will also be able to enjoy secret retreats…and VOID Sound Systems, and the festival hints at plenty of special unannounced sets and secret parties across the week.” –FACT
Island food options include everything from street cars to high-end dining. Lodging options start at small hotels, and go all the way up to grand villas with swimming pools, palm trees, tennis courts, and private beaches. With ticket prices currently at € 250 for a 5 day pass or € 75 for one day, attending SXMusic is fairly adaptable to budgets with a small disposable income.
